Effective date: September 9, 2026
Last updated: October 6, 2026
This Privacy Policy describes how Lobsterhawk LLC d/b/a Telltales (“Telltales,” “we,” “us,” or “our”) collects, uses, shares, and protects information when you visit or use https://telltalessail.com, related subdomains, emails, merch waitlists, and any other Telltales product that links to this Policy (together, the “Services”).
By using the Services, you agree to this Policy and to our Terms of Use. If you do not agree, do not use the Services.
This is not legal advice to you. It is our notice of how we handle information. Have counsel review it before you rely on it as a filed corporate policy.
Parent summary (read this first)
The user of Telltales Circuit is an adult — a parent, guardian, coach, or other grown-up on the junior circuit. A child never gets an email, a Google sign-in, or a Circuit password. A parent may set a Shore School username and four-digit PIN so a sailor can continue lessons on a shared device.
We store three kinds of information:
- Your account. Parent email, adult confirmation, and a password hash or a Google sign-in through our authentication provider.
- A claimed sailor. Name, club, class or fleet, season year, sail number, optional girls’-division eligibility, visibility, and the event rows a parent confirmed. Profiles start private. A public season page is available when a parent turns Circuit visibility on. Eligibility is not published.
- Official results and host-published going lists. When a parent confirms matching events for a claimed sailor, we may copy the official grid from a public host (Clubspot, and we may also copy Regatta Network, Yacht Scoring, or another public host) and keep it. Search may also read public host pages without saving a new grid. Printed name, sail, club, fleet, place, points, and codes are labels on that event. Going names come from the host registration sheet, not a parent mark. The host sheet still wins.
We do not store a child’s email, a child’s Google or Circuit password, a required photo, a full birthdate, a device ID for the sailor, DMs, school, hotel, or live location. If a parent enables Shore School, we store a sailor username, a hashed PIN, lesson checkoffs, quiz practice scores, and a saved boat-setup (including a weight number used only for rigging, not a fitness profile).
The Circuit product is intended to stay free for parents and sailors. We may show advertisements and we may market Telltales merch and other products or services to adult users. We do not use a child’s information to target ads at that child. We do not sell children’s personal information.
Takedown: a parent can delete a claimed profile from the account page. Write help@telltalessail.com if you need a human to do it within 24 hours.
1. Who we are
Telltales is a merch brand and a small circuit product for junior sailing. The consumer name is Telltales. The legal operator is Lobsterhawk LLC d/b/a Telltales. Parents and the company operate the site. A child is not the operator and is not a legal member of the company for purposes of these notices.
- Legal name: Lobsterhawk LLC
- DBA: Telltales
- Site: https://telltalessail.com
- Privacy / takedown email: help@telltalessail.com
- Place of business: Clearwater, Florida, United States
2. Who this Policy covers
This Policy covers:
- Visitors who browse without an account
- Adults who create a parent account
- Adults who search official results on the Services
- Adults who join a merch or drop waitlist
- Adults who buy merch on
/shop - Information about junior sailors that appears because a parent claimed a sailor or because an adult looked up a public results sheet
It does not cover:
- Official results hosts (Regatta Network, Clubspot, Yacht Scoring, a yacht club, USODA, US Sailing, or any other organizer)
- Payment processors, shop platforms, or ad networks once those are connected — those parties have their own policies
- Social networks you use to reach us (Instagram, X, and similar)
We do not offer child accounts. If you are under 18, you may look at public pages with a parent. You may not create an account.
3. Information we collect
3.1 Information you give us
Parent account
- Email address
- Password, if you use email sign-in (we store a hash through our auth provider, not the raw password)
- Google account identifiers if you choose “Continue with Google” (email, name, and a provider user id)
- Confirmation that you are 18 or older and a parent or guardian
- Account settings, including email change and delete-account requests
Creating an account does not fetch official results. Signup is only a login.
Claimed sailor (parent-owned profile)
When you claim a sailor you provide:
- First and last name
- Club
- Class or fleet
- Season year
- Sail number
- Optional girls’-division eligibility and a parent-only girls’ standings opt-in. Official sheets do not list gender. Eligibility is not published.
- Visibility (private, or Circuit-visible). A public season page is available when a parent turns Circuit visibility on.
Saving the sailor stores the profile. Confirming a matching row stores the event claim and, when the host printed a grid, the official rows.
We do not require a photo, a full birthdate, a school name, or a child’s contact method. We do not ask a parent to mark a sailor as “going”; that list comes from the host.
Waitlist and merch
- Parent email
- The page you signed up from (for example, merch or shop)
- When you buy merch: shipping name, address, phone, and order details. Card numbers are handled by Stripe, not stored by Telltales as full PAN data.
Support
- Whatever you write to help@telltalessail.com, including takedown requests
Adult checkbox. We treat the checkbox on create-account and on the Google guardian step as your representation that you are 18 or older and a parent or guardian. The merch waitlist checkbox asks that you are the parent or guardian and not entering a child’s email. We do not independently verify age beyond those representations, email confirmation, and the ordinary signals of the sign-in provider.
3.2 Official results we copy from public hosts
Junior race results are already posted by event hosts. Telltales is not those hosts.
Search requires a parent account. A logged-in adult may search by first and last name, or by sail number and fleet, plus a season year. Search may:
- Read results we already stored
- At the same time, request matching public pages from hosts we support (today that includes Clubspot)
A Search lookup does not by itself store a new official grid.
When a parent confirms matching events for a claimed sailor, we may:
- Store the full official grid for each confirmed event — every printed row, not only the claimed sailor
- Keep a link back to the official sheet
- Copy a host-published going / registration list for that event
A logged-out visitor cannot use Search. They may open public pages we already publish: Circuit events, host-published going names, and a public season page a parent opted on.
What we copy from a sheet, when the host printed it:
- Event name, host, venue, dates, class, fleet, boats in fleet, provisional or final status
- Printed name, sail number, club as printed, place, points, scoring codes (UFD, BFD, DNF, and similar)
- Names a host published as registered or going
What we do not take off a sheet: email, phone, birthdate, photo, address, or anything the host did not publish on that public page.
Two kinds of records
- Claimed profile. A parent owns it. It has gender, visibility, and confirmed event rows.
- Official rows on an event. Printed labels on a stored sheet. Nobody’s parent has to have claimed them. They are not a social profile. There is no unclaimed “person page.”
A claimed profile set to private still appears in parent Search as official results if those rows exist, and printed names may still appear on Circuit events or a fleet sheet. Private hides the public /sailor/ season page, not places the host already posted.
We are not a ranking house. Search does not produce a statewide leaderboard.
3.3 Weather
For some events we attach a shore approximation: nearest public station or buoy, a knot range, direction, and a light / mixed / heavy bucket. That is weather for the venue window, not “the wind in a child’s face,” and not a live location of a sailor.
3.4 Information collected automatically
When you use the Services we and our processors may collect:
- IP address, approximate region, browser type, device type
- Pages viewed, referring URL, and coarse timing
- Cookies or local storage needed to keep you signed in
- Server logs, including (for logged-in host fetches) parent account id, query shape, year, and number of events fetched
We try not to put a child’s raw name into analytics products if we enable analytics. Account pages are blocked from crawlers in our robots rules. Public pages — including Circuit events, a public season page, and merch — may be crawled.
3.5 Information we do not collect on purpose
We do not collect, and the product is built not to collect:
- Child email or child password
- Child-authored free text (beyond what a parent may later approve as a one-line recap, if we ever ship that)
- Direct messages, follows, or “who’s online”
- Required sailor photos
- Full birthdate (year-only would be used only if a fleet rule ever required it, and we would say so first)
- School, hotel, travel plans, or live GPS of a sailor
- A browse-all-by-fleet sailor index (“show everyone in Green Fleet”). Circuit events may still list claimed regattas and host-published going names
- Payment card PAN on Telltales servers
4. How we use information
We use information to:
- Create and secure parent accounts
- Let a parent claim a sailor and confirm a results row
- Fetch, store, display, and refresh official results that an adult asked us to look up or confirm
- Show event-scoped opponent labels and, after enough shared scored events in the same fleet (currently three weekends), a narrow head-to-head
- Apply gender and visibility rules for claimed profiles and public season pages
- Attach venue weather
- Publish Circuit event lists and host-published going names
- Operate merch waitlists and, later, fulfill shop orders
- Send service email (password reset, confirmation, takedown status)
- Send marketing email to an adult address you gave us, if you joined a waitlist or did not opt out
- Show advertisements and promote Telltales or third-party products or services to adult users, as described in Section 6
- Measure tent QR scans, shop interest, and whether the site is working
- Prevent abuse (we may rate-limit Search and fetch)
- Comply with law, enforce the Terms, and protect sailors, parents, and the site
We do not use Circuit data to invent places, to publish a statewide rank, or to contact a child.
5. How we share information
We do not sell children’s personal information.
We share information only as follows.
Service providers (processors). Hosting, database, authentication, email, analytics, shop, and payment. Today that set includes, or may include:
- Netlify (site hosting)
- Supabase (authentication and Postgres)
- Google (if you use Google sign-in; also fonts and, if enabled later, analytics)
- Email delivery for auth and waitlist
- NOAA or other public weather sources
- Stripe (Checkout, receipts, payouts) on a Lobsterhawk LLC d/b/a Telltales Stripe account
They are allowed to process information only to provide their service to us, except where their own policy applies to an account you hold directly with them (Google, a shop checkout).
Official hosts. When a logged-in adult search requires a fetch, our servers request a public page from the host. We identify our client. We do not send the host a child’s email. The host already published the sheet.
Other users. Official places, printed names, sails, and clubs that we stored may be visible to other parents in Search and on a fleet sheet. Circuit events may show claimed regatta names and host-published going names to any visitor. A public /sailor/ season page exists only if a parent opted a claimed sailor into Circuit visibility. Girls’ eligibility is not on that page.
Advertising and marketing partners. If we run ads or a sponsored placement, we may share adult contact or cookie identifiers with an ad or email vendor as described in Section 6. We do not attach advertising pixels to a child profile or a sailor results page in order to build an ad profile of that child.
Legal and safety. We may disclose information if we believe in good faith it is required by law, needed to respond to a valid legal process, or necessary to protect a person from serious harm.
Business transfer. If we reorganize, assign the DBA, or sell assets, information may move with the product, under this Policy or a successor notice.
With your direction. If you ask us to send something to a club, a printer, or another vendor, we will.
We do not sell access to the results database as a marketing list of children.
6. Advertising, merch, and marketing
The Circuit product is intended to stay free for parents and sailors. Free services are often paid for by merch and by advertising. This section is how that will work if and when we turn it on.
6.1 Our own marketing
We may email a parent address about:
- Telltales merch, drops, restocks, and tent dates
- New Circuit features
- Third-party products or services we think a junior-sailing parent might want (for example a club, a coach, a class, or a brand)
You can unsubscribe from marketing email using the link in the message or by writing help@telltalessail.com. Service email (password reset, takedown, order status) still goes through.
6.2 Advertisements on the site
We may display advertisements, sponsored placements, or affiliate links on parent-facing pages (home, merch, story, account marketing modules). An ad may be served by us or by a network.
Rules we commit to:
- Ads are aimed at adults
- We will not use a claimed sailor’s profile, a child’s inferred location at an event, or official result rows to target an ad to that child
- We will not put a third-party advertising pixel on a sailor results page or a claimed-sailor season page for the purpose of tracking that sailor across the web
- We will not show an ad that asks a child to contact a stranger
Contextual placement (“this page is about junior sailing in Florida”) is allowed. Behavioral retargeting, if we ever use it, will be built from adult site activity (waitlist, merch pages, parent account), not from a child’s season page.
6.3 “Sale” or “sharing” under state privacy laws
Some state laws treat the use of identifiers for cross-context advertising as a “sale” or “share” of personal information. If we enable that kind of advertising, we will provide a “Do Not Sell or Share My Personal Information” path at help@telltalessail.com and, when the feature is live, a link in the site footer. We do not sell or share children’s personal information for advertising.
6.4 Shop checkout
Checkout happens on Stripe Checkout. Stripe collects billing (and, when we ship, shipping) under its policy. Telltales stores order metadata needed to fulfill or support the order: parent email, SKUs, quantities, amounts, and fulfillment status. Card numbers stay with Stripe. There is no child checkout.
7. Children, COPPA, and Florida youth rules
Junior Optimist and other youth classes include children under 13. We designed the Services for parents and other adults, not as a child-directed social network.
What that means in practice
- No child email, Google, or Circuit account
- A parent may issue a Shore School username + PIN. That session cannot open results, search, or account settings
- No child email field
- No DMs, no follows, no presence indicators, no profile wall
- No “who’s online”
- Claim and fetch are adult actions
- Default claimed profile is private
- Public season pages do not show girls’-division eligibility or girls’ standings
- Search is a logged-in lookup by first + last, or sail number and fleet, plus year — not a browse-all sailor index
- Circuit events may list claimed regattas and host-published going names
- Takedown exists and is meant to work
Information about children. A parent who claims a sailor is giving us information about their child and consenting to our use of it as described here. Official results we copy were published by an event host, not collected from the child through a Telltales form.
COPPA. We do not knowingly allow a child under 13 to create a parent account. A Shore School PIN is issued only by a parent who already has an adult account. If we learn that a parent login belongs to a child under 13, we will delete that login and the claimed profiles on it. Official result rows that other adults still need for an event they claimed may remain as printed labels on that event.
If you are a parent and you believe we have information about your child that should not be here, write help@telltalessail.com. We treat that as a takedown.
What we will not build in order to stay off the kids’-social-network line: child chat, an open feed, comments on another child’s place, or a statewide “top 10” of children.
This Policy is written for a U.S. audience. The Services are operated from Florida.
8. Cookies and similar tools
We use cookies or local storage that are:
- Strictly necessary — to keep a parent signed in and to protect the session
- Functional — to remember a UI choice
- Analytics — if enabled, to see whether pages load and whether a tent QR reached the shop or a season page
- Advertising — only if we turn ads on, and only on the pages described in Section 6
You can block cookies in your browser. If you block necessary cookies, sign-in may break.
We do not have to honor a browser “Do Not Track” signal because there is no consistent standard, but we will honor a legally required opt-out of sale/share when that mechanism is live.
9. How long we keep information
- Parent account. Until you delete it, or we close it under the Terms.
- Claimed sailor. Until the owning parent deletes the sailor or the account. Deleting the sailor removes the profile and any public season page. Opponent labels and printed rows may remain on an event another claimed sailor still needs as a fact.
- Official grids and going lists. For as long as they are useful as a local copy of a public sheet, unless a valid takedown or legal duty requires earlier deletion. We may unlink a sailor from a row rather than erase an event another user still views.
- Waitlist email. Until you unsubscribe or we retire the list.
- Logs. For a short operational period unless we must keep them for security or law.
- Orders. For as long as tax, warranty, or accounting rules require.
Backup copies fall away on the backup cycle.
10. Your choices and rights
10.1 Things you can do in the product
- Change email or password (Google-only accounts change email in Google)
- Add or remove a claimed sailor
- Set Circuit visibility on a claimed sailor (or keep the profile private)
- Delete the parent account (this removes the login and every sailor on it)
- Unsubscribe from marketing email
10.2 Takedown
Email help@telltalessail.com with:
- Your name and the parent email on the account, if any
- The sailor name and sail number
- Whether you want the claimed profile removed, a public season page turned off, or both
- A sentence that you are the parent, guardian, or the sailor (if 18+)
We aim to complete a straightforward takedown within 24 hours of a readable request. Official host sheets are not ours to unpublish. We will remove or unlink our copy as described in Section 9.
10.3 U.S. state privacy rights
Depending on where you live (including Florida, California, and other states with consumer privacy laws), you may have the right to:
- Confirm whether we process personal information
- Access a copy
- Correct inaccurate information
- Delete information we hold, subject to the event-label exception above
- Opt out of targeted advertising, sale, or sharing, if we enable those practices
- Opt out of profiling in furtherance of decisions that produce legal or similarly significant effects (we do not do that)
- Appeal a refusal
We will not discriminate against you for exercising a right. We may need to verify the request. An authorized agent may submit a request if state law allows it and we can verify both you and the agent.
Send requests to help@telltalessail.com with the subject line “Privacy request.”
Florida. We operate in Florida. If the Florida Digital Bill of Rights or another Florida privacy statute applies to us given our size and activity, we will honor the rights it grants. If a statute does not yet apply because we are below a threshold, we will still take a serious deletion and correction request.
California Shine the Light. We do not disclose personal information to third parties for their own direct marketing other than as described in Section 6. California residents may write us once per year to ask.
10.4 EEA / UK visitors
The Services are built for U.S. junior sailing. If you use them from the EEA or UK, we process information as needed to provide the Services you request, to pursue legitimate interests (running a free results page, securing accounts, marketing to adults who asked for a drop note), or with consent where required. You may have GDPR rights of access, correction, deletion, restriction, objection, and portability. We do not presently appoint an EU representative. Email help@telltalessail.com.
11. Security
We use HTTPS, hashed or provider-managed credentials, and access-controlled hosting. We may rate-limit Search and host fetches. No website is perfectly secure. Do not put a child’s passport, medical record, or school schedule into a Telltales field. There is no field for those things on purpose.
12. Third-party sites
Links to Regatta Network, Clubspot, Yacht Scoring, a yacht club, NOAA, Google, Stripe Checkout, or an advertiser leave our Service. Their privacy practices are theirs. Always open the official sheet if a place matters.
13. Changes
We may update this Policy. The “Last updated” date will change. If we start doing something materially new with personal information — for example turning on an ad network or a shop — we will post the revised Policy before that use begins and, where required, notify parent emails we hold. Continued use after the update means you accept the revised Policy.
