Terms of Use
Telltales
telltalessail.com
Effective date: September 9, 2026
Last updated: October 6, 2026
These Terms of Use (“Terms”) are a contract between you and Lobsterhawk LLC d/b/a Telltales (“Telltales,” “we,” “us,” or “our”). They govern your use of https://telltalessail.com, related subdomains, emails, merch waitlists, shop pages, and any other Telltales product that links to these Terms (together, the “Services”).
By visiting, creating an account, searching results, joining a waitlist, or buying merch, you agree to these Terms and to our Privacy Policy. If you do not agree, do not use the Services.
These Terms are a draft operating contract, not a substitute for advice from your own lawyer.
1. What Telltales is
Telltales is two things under one mark:
- Merch. Tees, hats, stickers, pins, jewelry, and other goods we may offer. The shop runs on telltalessail.com. Stripe Checkout is the cashier. A waitlist may still collect parent emails for restocks.
- Circuit. A parent-owned season page and a lookup of junior sailing results that event hosts have already posted.
The Circuit product is intended to stay free for parents and sailors. We may support that free product by selling merch, by displaying advertisements, and by marketing products or services to adult users.
Telltales is not:
- USODA, US Sailing, a yacht club, or an organizing authority
- Regatta Network, Clubspot, Yacht Scoring, or any other official results host
- A scoring authority
- A ranking house
- A messenger, social network, or dating site
- A substitute for the notice of race, sailing instructions, or the host sheet
- A child’s personal site. Parents and the company operate the site.
If a number on Telltales and a number on the host sheet disagree, the host sheet wins.
2. Who may use the Services
You must be 18 years or older to create an account, claim a sailor, run Search, or complete a purchase.
Joining a merch waitlist requires a parent or guardian email. Do not enter a child’s email.
You represent that:
- If you create an account, claim a sailor, run Search, or buy merch, you are at least 18
- You are using the Services for yourself as a parent, guardian, coach, or other adult
- If you claim a sailor, you are that sailor’s parent or legal guardian, or you have that person’s authority
- If you join a waitlist, you are a parent or guardian and the email is yours
- The information you submit is accurate so far as you know
Children. A child does not get an email, a Google sign-in, or a Circuit password. A parent may set a Shore School username and PIN. A child may look at public pages with a parent. If we learn a parent account belongs to someone under 18, we may delete it without notice.
We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13 through an account they created. See the Privacy Policy.
3. Accounts
Parent accounts use our authentication provider (currently Supabase Auth). You may sign in with email and password or with Google.
Rules:
- One adult per login. Do not share the password.
- Checking the adult / parent-or-guardian box is a condition of creating the account. Google users who skip it must confirm on the guardian page before the account is a parent account.
- Creating an account does not fetch official results.
- You are responsible for activity on your login.
- We may refuse, suspend, or close an account that looks like a child login, a bot, a harvester, or a person using the site to contact children.
Forgot-password flows work off the parent email only. We will not recover an account from a sailor name.
You may delete your account in settings. Deleting the account removes the login and every claimed sailor on it. Official grids that other users already stored may remain as public results, unlinked from your profile.
4. Claiming a sailor
A claimed profile is parent-owned. You add a name, club, class or fleet, season year, sail number, and optional girls’-division eligibility. Saving the sailor stores that profile. Official event rows are stored only when you confirm a matching row we show you.
Official sheets do not list gender. Girls’ award eligibility and girls’ standings are parent-entered and visible only to the owning parent. A public season page (Circuit-visible) is available for any claimed sailor a parent opts on. Eligibility is not shown on public pages.
Profiles start private. Private keeps the parent season view off a public slug. It does not hide printed names, places, or host-published going lists that already sit on an event page another visitor can open.
You agree that:
- You will not claim a sailor you do not have authority to claim
- You will not use claim to impersonate another family
- Fuzzy matches (two sailors, a charter sail, a mid-season number change) require your judgment. We do not auto-merge on first name alone
- Girls’-division eligibility you submit is accurate so far as you know
We may reject or unwind a claim that appears abusive.
5. Search and official results
5.1 What search does
Search requires a parent account. A logged-in adult may look up a sailor by first and last name, or by sail number and fleet, plus a season year.
Search may read results we already stored and, at the same time, request matching public pages from hosts we support (today that includes Clubspot). A Search lookup does not by itself save a new official grid.
The dataset grows when a parent confirms matching events for a claimed sailor. That confirmation may store the full official grid for those events — every printed row, not only the claimed sailor — along with a link back to the host sheet. We may also copy Regatta Network, Yacht Scoring, or another public host when a parent claims an event from that host.
Logged-out visitors cannot use Search. They may still open public pages we already publish: the Circuit events list, host-published going names, and a public season page a parent opted on.
Empty Search returns nothing. There is no public “all sailors” directory. Circuit events can list claimed regattas and names a host already published as going.
5.2 Host sheet wins
We copy place, points, printed name, sail, club, and fleet when the host printed them. We link out. If the host has not posted, we do not guess.
Provisional sheets may be refreshed. If our copy is stale or wrong, believe the host.
5.3 Official rows and head-to-head
Printed names on an event are labels on that sheet, not a social profile. They have no login and no DM surface. Gender is not on the host sheet and is not required to read a stored fleet sheet.
A public /sailor/ season page exists only for a claimed sailor whose parent turned Circuit visibility on. Girls’ standings are not on that page.
Head-to-head, if shown, is a convenience computed from shared scored events in the same fleet after a minimum number of weekends (currently three). It is not an official ranking.
5.4 Fair use of hosts
We may cap Search, host fetches, or both. If we do and you hit the cap, wait. Do not script around it.
You may not use the Services as a bulk harvester of junior sailing rosters, and you may not use our fetch pipeline as an anonymous proxy for Regatta Network, Clubspot, Yacht Scoring, or any other host.
Telltales is not affiliated with those hosts. They did not appoint us as their publisher. We copy public pages as a convenience for adults who already could open the same URL.
5.5 Weather
Weather chips are shore approximations from public stations. They are not a forecast you should use to decide whether a child races. The organizing authority and the child’s coach or parent decide that.
6. Acceptable use
You may use the Services to follow a season, look up a public sheet, buy merch when it exists, and read the wind on Sunday night.
You may not:
- Create a child account, or help a child create one
- Use the Services to contact, groom, locate, or solicit a minor
- Post another family’s address, school, hotel, travel plan, or phone number
- Upload sexual, exploitative, or pornographic material
- Harass a sailor, a parent, a club, or a race official
- Comment on a child’s body, or invite others to
- Scrape, crawl, or bulk-export the Services except ordinary browser use or a public search engine obeying robots.txt
- Bypass rate limits, robots rules, or access controls
- Reverse engineer the fetch jobs except as the law allows
- Misrepresent an official place or invent a result
- Frame the site or strip our mark in a way that suggests you are Telltales
- Interfere with another parent’s account
- Use the Services for any unlawful purpose
Banter, if we ever ship it, stays cramped: a site-written one-line recap, an optional parent sentence that sits in a queue until approved, and fixed reaction chips. No DMs. No walls. No child-authored free text. No comments on another child’s place. We may remove anything that looks like contact-seeking on a first strike.
Report abuse to help@telltalessail.com.
7. User content
“User Content” means anything you submit: claim details (including gender and visibility), confirmed event rows, waitlist notes, support emails, and — if we ever ship it — an optional parent recap sentence. Host-published going lists are copies of the host sheet, not a parent “going” mark.
You keep whatever rights you have in User Content. You grant Telltales a worldwide, non-exclusive, royalty-free license to host, copy, display, and adapt that content as needed to operate the Services (including storing an official grid you caused us to fetch, and showing public results to other visitors).
You represent you have the right to grant that license and that your content does not infringe anyone else’s rights.
We may remove User Content at any time, including for a takedown, a rights claim, or a product change.
Official grids are copies of host publications. We do not claim copyright in the underlying race results. Our compilation, arrangement, weather stamps, and software are ours.
8. Intellectual property
TELLTALES, the circular mark (navy ring, hot pink mainsail, wave blue, navy hull/jib), “Read the wind,” and “Keep them flying” are identifiers we use for the brand. Do not copy the mark onto merch you sell. Do not register a confusingly similar name for a junior-sailing product.
The site design, copy, software, and compilation are owned by Telltales or its licensors and are protected by copyright and other laws.
You may not use our mark in a way that suggests we endorse a club, a coach, or another brand without permission.
If you believe something on the site infringes your copyright, send a notice to help@telltalessail.com with:
- Your signature (physical or electronic)
- The work claimed to be infringed
- The URL of the material
- Your contact information
- A statement of good-faith belief that the use is not authorized
- A statement under penalty of perjury that the notice is accurate and that you are the owner or authorized agent
We will respond under the DMCA if it applies. Repeat infringers lose their account.
9. Advertisements and third-party offers
We may display ads, sponsored placements, affiliate links, or merch promotions on the Services. Those offerings are aimed at adults.
- An advertiser is responsible for its own claims
- A link off-site is not an endorsement
- We may be paid for a placement
- We do not promise that an advertised product is safe, in stock, or right for your sailor
- Ads will not be attached to a child profile for the purpose of targeting that child
If you click an ad or buy from a third party, that transaction is between you and them.
10. Merch, waitlists, and future paid features
Nothing in these Terms requires us to keep every feature free forever, but Circuit lookup and parent season pages are intended to remain free for ordinary parent and sailor use. We would post a change before charging for those core pages.
Waitlist. Joining a merch waitlist is not a reservation and not a purchase. We will email the parent address you gave us when a drop is real.
Shop. The shop is live on telltalessail.com:
- Prices are in U.S. dollars unless marked otherwise
- We may limit quantity
- Colors and print placement on small-batch or print-on-demand goods can vary
- Shipping times are estimates
- Checkout is Stripe Checkout. Card numbers stay with Stripe
- Risk of loss passes when the carrier takes the package
- Returns follow the policy posted at checkout
- We may cancel an order that looks fraudulent or that we cannot fulfill
- Table sales at a tent share the same inventory and may not go through Stripe
There is no child checkout. Do not enter a child’s payment method.
11. Takedown
A parent may delete a claimed sailor from the account page.
A parent, guardian, or sailor who has reached 18 may email help@telltalessail.com to request that we remove a claimed profile, turn off a public season page, or stop showing a sailor on our pages where we can. We aim to act on a readable request within 24 hours.
Limits:
- We cannot unpublish the host sheet
- We may leave printed labels or host-published going names on an event another claimed sailor still needs as a fact, or that Circuit events still lists from the host
- We may retain information as required by law or to resolve a dispute
12. Disclaimers
THE SERVICES ARE PROVIDED “AS IS” AND “AS AVAILABLE.” TO THE MAXIMUM EXTENT PERMITTED BY LAW, TELLTALES DISCLAIMS ALL WARRANTIES, EXPRESS OR IMPLIED, INCLUDING MERCHANTABILITY, FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE, TITLE, AND NON-INFRINGEMENT.
We do not warrant that:
- Places, points, or fleets on Telltales match the host at this minute
- Weather chips describe the course
- Search returned every event a sailor sailed
- The site will be up on a Sunday night after Opti Week
- An advertisement or a piece of merch will meet your expectations
Junior sailing is a sport. Nothing on this site is worth a missed skippers’ meeting, a missed rotation, or a decision about whether the breeze is safe. That decision stays with the organizing authority, the sailor, and the adult on the beach.
Some states do not allow certain warranty disclaimers. In those states the disclaimer applies to the fullest extent allowed.
13. Limitation of liability
TO THE MAXIMUM EXTENT PERMITTED BY LAW, TELLTALES AND ITS MEMBERS, MANAGERS, OFFICERS, AND CONTRACTORS WILL NOT BE LIABLE FOR ANY INDIRECT, INCIDENTAL, SPECIAL, CONSEQUENTIAL, EXEMPLARY, OR PUNITIVE DAMAGES, OR ANY LOSS OF PROFITS, DATA, GOODWILL, OR RACE OPPORTUNITY, ARISING OUT OF THE SERVICES OR THESE TERMS, EVEN IF ADVISED OF THE POSSIBILITY.
OUR TOTAL LIABILITY FOR ANY CLAIM ARISING OUT OF THE SERVICES OR THESE TERMS WILL NOT EXCEED THE GREATER OF (A) THE AMOUNT YOU PAID TELLTALES IN THE TWELVE MONTHS BEFORE THE CLAIM OR (B) TWENTY-FIVE U.S. DOLLARS ($25). IF YOU USED ONLY THE FREE CIRCUIT PAGES AND NEVER PAID US, THE CAP IS $25.
These limits allocate risk. They are a foundation of the bargain that lets us keep Circuit free. Some jurisdictions do not allow certain limitations. In those jurisdictions our liability is limited to the fullest extent allowed.
Nothing in these Terms limits liability that the law says cannot be limited, including liability for our own willful misconduct where that bar applies.
14. Indemnity
You will defend and indemnify Telltales and its members, managers, officers, and contractors from claims, damages, and reasonable legal fees arising out of:
- Your use of the Services
- Your User Content
- Your claim of a sailor you did not have authority to claim
- Your misuse of official results
- Your violation of these Terms or of anyone else’s rights
We will notify you of a claim we want indemnified when we reasonably can. We may take over the defense with counsel we choose.
15. Suspension and termination
You may stop using the Services at any time and delete your account.
We may suspend or terminate access immediately if you break these Terms, if we must do so for safety or law, or if we shut the product down. We may also stop offering a feature (including search fetch, weather, or merch) without liability.
Sections that should survive termination do survive, including intellectual property, disclaimers, limitation of liability, indemnity, and dispute terms.
16. Disputes, Florida law, and venue
These Terms are governed by the laws of the State of Florida, without regard to conflict-of-law rules, except that the Federal Arbitration Act governs the interpretation and enforcement of the arbitration agreement below if it applies.
Informal resolution. Before filing a claim, email help@telltalessail.com with a short description of the dispute and give us 30 days to respond.
Small claims. You may sue in small-claims court in Pinellas County, Florida, if the claim qualifies.
Arbitration. If the dispute is not resolved informally and is not a qualifying small-claims matter, it will be resolved by binding individual arbitration administered by the American Arbitration Association under its Consumer Arbitration Rules. The seat is Pinellas County, Florida. The arbitrator may award the same individual relief a court could. You and Telltales waive class actions and class arbitrations. Either of us may seek injunctive relief in court to protect intellectual property or to address interference with the Services.
Opt out. You may opt out of arbitration within 30 days of first accepting these Terms by emailing help@telltalessail.com with the subject “Arbitration opt-out” and the parent email on your account.
Venue for court actions that are not arbitrated is the state or federal courts sitting in Pinellas County, Florida, and you consent to those courts.
Injunctive relief. Unauthorized scraping, child-contact activity, or misuse of the mark may cause irreparable harm. We may seek an injunction without posting a bond to the extent the law allows.
17. International use
The Services are operated from the United States and intended for U.S. junior sailing. If you use them from elsewhere, you are responsible for local law. Do not use the Services where they are prohibited.
18. Changes to the Terms
We may revise these Terms. The “Last updated” date will change. Material changes — for example adding a paid Circuit tier, an ad network, or a shop checkout — will be posted before they apply, and we may email parent addresses we hold. Continued use after the effective date is acceptance. If you do not agree, close the account and stop using the Services.
19. Miscellaneous
- Entire agreement. These Terms and the Privacy Policy are the agreement for the Services. A shop checkout may add its own terms for that order.
- Severability. If a provision is unenforceable, the rest remains.
- No waiver. A failure to enforce a provision is not a waiver.
- Assignment. You may not assign these Terms. We may assign them to an affiliate, a successor DBA holder, or a buyer of the product.
- No third-party beneficiaries, except the indemnified people in Section 14.
- Force majeure. We are not liable for delays caused by weather, hosting outages, host-site outages, hurricanes, or other events beyond our reasonable control. This is Florida. That list is not theoretical.
- Notices. We may notice you by email to the parent address or by posting on the site. You notice us at help@telltalessail.com.
- Headings are for reading, not for interpretation.
- Export and sanctions. You may not use the Services if you are prohibited from doing so under U.S. law.
